"Winter" seems to be finally coming to an end! The leaves are really coming out now, and things that didn't like the frost should begin to recover. In the Sanctuary, we hope that some of the 'invasive' vegetation may at least have been stunted by the colder-than-normal winter.
The birds are really beginning to sing. Robin flocks have dwindled, letting us know that they're heading north in earnest. Our spring migrants that pass through, such as the Northern Parula warbler, have been heard on the trails. One Swallow-tailed Kite was seen gliding over the office, and a Solitary Sandpiper was at the office ponds - one seems to stop here briefly every spring. The last migrant that seems to arrive here, beautiful Black-necked Stilt, has not been seen yet.
Thanks to all the Sanctuary volunteers, for pitching in with bird houses, plantings, trail markings, and activities for fund raising! And thanks also to those who support the Sanctuary with their time and donations!
